This spring, join Lindsay Whaley and Drew Matter in discussing “How Then Shall We Live? Lessons from Esther.”
The book of Esther is unusual in several ways, so much so that Martin Luther questioned whether it should be in the Bible! For example, God is never mentioned. Most of the people named in the story aren’t people of God, but Persians. There is no overt moral teaching and very few editorial comments by the author to explain the book’s meaning. For this reason, modern readers often don’t recognize that Esther is more than a fascinating story. The book also offers some profound lessons about God and living faithfully in difficult circumstances.
